Description

Evangelion Provisional Unit 05 cosplay: Scene 3
"These controls are damn heavy! Looks like I have to do it by brute force!!"

Costume and 3rd Angel: :iconamenokitarou:
Photography, light technician, editing: :iconpireze:

I made and wore this costume as an entry to the Madman National Cosplay Championship, Sydney Round at Supanova, and received second place.

A little about the shoot:
I can't put into words how proud I am of this costume and this shoot.
Whenever ~pireze and I shoot together... things just get quite intense... even if (in this case) it is in my garage!
This time, we were quite ambitious in trying to reproduce the first few minutes of EVA 2.22 in my very humble and ugly looking garage.
We had smoke and sparklers and lights and all this cool stuff... BUT... we forgot to bring in a helper. :iconnojoyplz:
So poor ~pireze did EVERYTHING himself while I stayed still like a giant plastic model.

Costume Notes:

This entire mecha is made from EVA foam... (heh *snort* EVA foam :iconhurrplz:)
All of the structure are first patterned then cut and chaped by cutting slits where appropriate and rejoining by contact bond. I was very lucky to pick up a cheap mannequin that is EXACTLY my measurements earlier this year, so I saved lots of time and frustration, not having to try it on and fix things until I got it right!!!
The upper body is coloured by coating contact adhesive as a sealant, then painting with Acrylic paints, then varnished with super gloss.
The lower body (I like to call them "fat legs") is covered with metallic fabric. I have made detachable joints in the legs so that they are articulate. The legs are attached to my hip by a wooden ring which I slip into, and it locks comfortably above my hip bone. So no painful harnesses!! :iconohjoyplz:
The construction was pretty simple, but just very very repetitive.
The light up parts in the shoulder pylongs are mini torches that I scouted from $2 stores. They are installed into the softest part of the armour so they can be turned on by squeezing the shoulder pylon. It's actually quite cute.
The lights on the side of the arms are ultra strong push lights (they have 24 LEDs in EACH of them D:)

Contrary to common believe, this costume was not too uncomfortable to wear at all...

There will be more EVA coming soon :) Stay tuned!!

Enjoy.
